Luxury?
LUXURY. Has this word lost its meaning? OR does it seem out of touch, associated with opulence that doesn’t resonate? Regardless, luxury is a concept deeply intertwined with the design world.
The term "luxury" entered my vocabulary when I stumbled into a new chapter of my career at 26, on the cobblestones of Motcomb Street in Belgravia, London. Surrounded by opulence and old-world wealth, I found myself advising clients on substantial design investments for their (second) homes, while I lived in a share house eating pesto pasta.
Now in Australia a decade later, I wonder if luxury has become just a buzzword, losing its impact. Reflecting on this, I realise that luxury, like beauty or success, means something different to each of us.
This understanding led to a profound insight: luxury is deeply personal (and transcends extravagance). In design and construction, true luxury is about consideration, quality and attention to detail—creating spaces that reflect individual preferences, passions, and lifestyle.
As an interior design professional, I aim to challenge the current perception of luxury and celebrate its deeper essence.
So, what does luxury mean to you?
Let’s redefine luxury, celebrating individuality and the beauty of personalised spaces that resonate with our deepest aspirations. Because true luxury isn’t just about what you see—it’s about how you feel in the spaces you inhabit.
How do you want to feel?
